Luminor Marina Militare PAM 36

Like most Special Edition Luminor watches, the PAM 36 has a story. After being sold to Richemont, all the projects that Panerai Firenze was developing were transfered over to the new Panerai company. One such project was the development of a watch made out of titanium.

The very first titanium watch produced by the new Officine Panerai was the Luminor Submersible PAM 25. The second was the PAM 40, which was designed to be a production watch rather than a collector's item. Oddly enough, only 200 were ever produced and the PAM 40 has become one of the most prized collectors' pieces. In some ways the PAM 40, used to test Western markets like the US and Germany, was the precursor to the PAM 36 which was supposed to be the real collectors' piece.

Interestingly the PAM 36 was given the "B" series designation, which refers to 1999, even though officially Panerai indicates that it was produced in 1998. This discrepancy and failure by Panerai to address the issue has increased the level of mystery about this watch. Perhaps that was part of the idea in the first place.

The PAM 36 is one of only two models that received a "T Swiss T" dial on production. With tritium indexes, Grade 2 titanium and a brown dial, the PAM 36 is very rare indeed and will seldom surface for auction.
