Luminor Chrono
Description: Panerai's Luminor Chrono made its debut in 1999, which makes it quite a recent addition to Panerai's lineup. While there are four different models of this type, they all share Panerai's precision chronograph functions with C.O.S.C. certification. The Luminor Chrono Daylight is made of AISI 316L solid steel or brushed titanium and comes in several dial colors (ivory, black or blue). The chronograph uses three counters (seconds, half hour and hours) and includes a tachymeter on the bezel. The Luminor 1950 Chrono Flyback and Rattrapante are designed slightly differently to bring back the 1950s Luminor vintage style with rounded edges and a smooth, polished bezel with no markings on it. This gives the watches an added sense of elegance, yet maintaining the sporty chrono feel. The movement in the Luminor 1950 Chrono Rattrapante is a split-seconds chronograph that is operated through twin column wheels. The Luminor 1950 Chrono Flyback looks like any other chrono watch except for the flyback complication that provides for permanent zeroing, which is made possible by a push-piece that sets the main hand back to zero without having to stop it first. This is very useful for quick resetting. The final model in the Chrono type is the 40mm model, which is a traditional chrono but with more elegant exterior features. The bezel is polished while the rest of the case is satin-finished, which creates contrast and depth between various areas of the watch.Who it is for: the Luminor Chrono is a very useful watch due to the sophisticated chronograph function, however the 1950 Flyback and 1950 Rattrapante are the two gems of this design type with two distinct and unique complications that set them apart from other watches. While they will prove their utility, these watches are as much about status as anything else. Very few people, other than Panerai enthusiasts, will have this watch. The wallet will need to be open, but it is worth the expense.
